Gas strut as fitted to the rear tailgate on the early Lotus Esprit S1 and S2.
This is not an original OE part.
From 1980 to sometime in 1982 the gas struts are mounted on the body, in the tailgate recess. Later models have them mounted on steel brackets fixted to the bulkhead.
This part is now obselete from Lotus Cars.
